The winter approaches... it reminds me of the cuddly creatures who live in the Arctic circle. Yes, they are Polar bears.
Do you know that polar bears are the largest land meat-eater in the world? Their bodies are designed to be well suited to the cold Arctic ice and snow.
The average height of adult male is 8.5 ft. and 6.5 ft. for female.
The average weight of adult male 900 lbs. and 500 lbs for female.
The polar bears have adapted themselves for better survive and for living in the Arctic one of the planet's coldest environment such as they have black skin which allows them to absorb the heat from the sun. They depend on their thick coat of insulated fur, which covers a warming layer of fat. The fur even grows on the bottom of their paws, which protects against cold surfaces and provides a good grip on ice.
When they reach maturity at 4-8 years, they breed around April to June and give birth to 1-3 cubs every 28 months. The cubs are born in the winter, lactation for 28 months and they may live for 25-30 years!
Polar bears are usually solitary except for female-cub groups, during mating season, and at abundant food sources.
Wildplanet realises the importance of this species as they are the most fitting icon for the Arctic region. They are impressive and yet so vulnerable animals. We have been creating a cute Polar bear cubs design for adults in navy colour and also for kids in navy and pink colour. Please check out in our wildplanet t-shirt catalogue.
Have a wonderful winter everyone!
