Platypus is one of the strangest animal on earth. Platypus lays eggs like reptiles. It has also a duck-like bill and a tail of otter but has no teeth. It has a mammal body. The female Platypus feeds the baby platypus her milk via the ducts on her abdomen because she hasn't got nipples. Platypus has a broad flat tail, stout legs ad webbed front feet.
Some people are confused by its appearance whether it is a bird or a reptile, and yet make them more confused when knowing it is actually a mammal!
Platypus is unique to Australia and its habitat ranges from the tropical parts of North Queensland to the cold areas of Tasmania, generally on the eastern side of the continent. Platypus build their burrows above the waterline of creeks, rivers and lakes, where it lives on a diet of fresh water crayfish, shrimps and insects.
Platypus is shy in the wild and difficult to find but fortunately now common. They were hunted for their fur but are now protected.
Wild Planet adores this unique animal and we put them on our beautiful t-shirt available for adults in dusty blue colour and for kids in dusty blue and aqua colour.
